The first step in requesting an SSL certificate for a Java based Web server, is to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) using Java Keytool–a tool in the Java Development Kit (JDK). We strongly recommend that you create the CSR on the Web server where the certificate will be installed to avoid moving your private key, but it can be created on any computer with the JDK installed.
